Frequently asked questions

A Sunport is a timber structure with a roof made of solar panels. It provides covered parking, storage, or outdoor workspace while generating clean electricity from its integrated solar roof. Instead of putting panels on your house, the Sunport becomes its own architectural element — part shelter, part power plant.
Absolutely. Sunports are modular and built using big-timber, post-and-beam construction, which allows for flexible design options. Check our our Sunport Designer to find your perfect configuration!
Sunport solar roofs are sized between 6.4–19.2 kW of solar capacity. If those numbers mean nothing to you, at the low end of the range, this is typically enough to offset the annually-averaged electricity use of a small home. At the high end, this is enough to offset the electricity use of a large household that charges an electric vehicle at home. Because it’s a ground-mount structure with ideal panel orientation, the system often produces more energy than rooftop panels installed at less-than-ideal angles. Check out our Sunport Designer to explore the range of sizes!
Kingdom Sun provides turnkey installations — we handle everything, from the setting of the foundation piers to the moment electricity starts flowing from the solar panels to your house and the grid.
We install waterproofing gaskets between the solar panels, providing seamless protection from the elements.
Yes! With the price of grid electricity increasing year after year, it's never made more sense to store the energy your Sunport harvests. Indicate that you want this feature in the Sunport Designer, and we'll include it in your detailed quote.

Meet the team
We’re Kyle and Jake. We’re physicists, builders, and dreamers. We believe the future is solar-powered, and we founded Kingdom Sun to help build that future.
Kyle Woolard
CEO

Kyle Woolard has worked at the intersection of climate tech and solar since 2019. After earning dual degrees in physics and astronomy from the University of Virginia, he promptly formed a band and toured North America and Europe for nearly a decade. Encounters with the stark realities of climate change in places like Alaska, Iceland, and Norway compelled him to dedicate his career to practical, forward-looking climate solutions. Outside work, Kyle writes fiction, skis, mountain bikes, and records music in his log-cabin studio in West Glover, Vermont.

Jake Seeley, PhD
CTO

Jake holds a PhD in Earth and Planetary Science from UC Berkeley, with a focus on the physics of clouds and global warming. From 2019 — 2025, he continued to do climate research at Harvard University, but his passion for solar energy (and desire to spend more time outside) ultimately led him to more hands-on pursuits. After a sabbatical spent on a farm in Vermont, he found his way to Yestermorrow, and eventually to co-founding Kingdom Sun. Outside of work, Jake is an avid runner and calisthenics athlete, and he is building the solar-powered compound of his dreams in Vermont’s beautiful Northeast Kingdom.
